Weekly bestiary log, entry 2

Welcome back to another round of Skittzo's Crazy Creature Camp! Let's dive right in with another pig pal.

Pigand: Bandits and scofflaws of Mican are often given harsh sentences, usually some manner of full or partial transmogrification. The group of brigands who would go on to become pig folk once marauded half of the central continent before being caught and punished by the royal guard. However this punishment is clearly no deterrent and pigands once again roam the lands, preying on travelers and adventurers as they please.

I needed a standard humanoid bandit type enemy and found a good starting model, but I don't like the idea of the player slaughtering other humans en masse so I had to come up with some differentiating feature*. As I often do, I decided to think of a good pun name and let that inform the character's design.

*not to say that these cute little piggies are any more deserving of being killed, but I do like when violence in games (in games where it's necessary) has at least some manner of detachment from reality.

Feisty Fae: A small fairy who aggressively defends her home forests by slapping her enemies with surprising force. Contrary to popular myth, these fairies are not playful tricksters, but a fierce and isolated group of warriors.

I have no idea why her skin came out this color in the screenshot but oh well. This character was simple enough, I just had to make some minor tweaks to the existing model and most of the materials. I just have to have a fairy in this game, it's basically tradition.

Yaga Hut: A living house which walks on chicken legs. Said to house Baba Yaga herself but none who have seen the hut have stayed to find out. This loyal companion/dwelling will defend her master to the death. If you must fight one, fire can probably do the trick!

As a huge huge fan of the Quest for Glory series I have always wanted some good Baba Yaga representation in anything I make. This model was a fair bit of work, I had to construct the house out of like 6-8 different components and materials and cut legs from my chicken model. Then paste the whole thing onto an existing skeletal mesh of, I believe, a zombie warrior? Then socket this mesh on a few socket points on his skeleton make him invisible so it appears the hut is doing the animations on its own.

Deep Horror: A terrifying monstrosity from deep in the ocean. Little is known of this creature since all who have attempted to document it have been tangled in its mass of hook-like tentacles and dragged to a watery grave.

This fella is basically a jellyfish merged with two krakens and pasted and socketed onto an invisible zombie mesh. I couldn't help but think a creature that had tentacle masses for arms and attacked by shooting them out at you would be pretty badass.

Scorch Sprite: A being of pure flame said to inhabit volcanoes and other badlands, yearning for fresh materials to set fire to, be it animal or vegetable. Ancient records suggest that these creatures were once normal fairies but became so enraged upon witnessing the destructive capacity of humankind that they simply burst into flame.

Relatively simple reskin of the Feisty Fae, though since it looked a bit plain I added a flaming deer skull because it looked pretty cool.

That's all for now, tune in next time for more Odd Combinations and Horrifying Monstrosities!
